Annual Chicken BBQ
Benefits the Huntingdon Community Center
Our largest local project is an annual Chicken BBQ serving over 1500 customers. All proceeds are donated to the Huntingdon Community Center, a non-profit organization that operates sports leagues and activities for youth of all ages in the Huntingdon area. Held every July at Emmert I. Detwiler Memorial Field, the event is fun for all the Rotary participants, and community members look forward to the great BBQ chicken!
Each year, the Huntingdon Rotary Club raises money to give every 4th grade student in Huntingdon County a dictionary. For many children, this is the first dictionary the family will own. The project helps to promote reading, comprehension and literarcy.
International Student Exchange
For many years, the Huntingdon Rotary Club has participated in theEastern States Student Exchange program and sponsored International students to stay with families in our community for an entire year of high school. In 2011-12, our exchange student was from Thailand and in 2012-13 our exchange student was from Ecuador. The club locates and screens host families, monitors the students performance at school and connects the student to the Huntingdon Rotary club. Students from the local high schools are also encouraged to apply to go to other countries for a year of study.
Support for Rotary International
Huntingdon Rotary is involved internationally by supporting The Rotary Foundation, which makes Health and Human Service grants all over the world. The club is currently working on funding two other international projects -- a safe-water well project in LaLomas, Haiti and classroom equipment for a new school in Guatemala.
